Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin, Texas is a historic golf course that was established in 1924. It is often referred to as "Muny" by locals and golf enthusiasts. The golf course has a unique place in American history as it was the first public golf course in the southern United States to desegregate in 1950. This desegregation was the result of the efforts of several civil rights leaders, including Dr. Heman Marion Sweatt, who fought a landmark court case that eventually led to the integration of the University of Texas at Austin. Today, Lions Municipal is a popular destination for golfers of all skill levels, and it continues to be a symbol of Austin's commitment to civil rights and equality.
