About Contraband Bayou
Contraband Bayou is a popular recreational area located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The bayou was originally named "Calcasieu River" by the Native Americans who lived in the area, but it became known as "Contraband Bayou" during the Civil War. It was named after the escaped slaves who sought refuge there, as it was considered a safe haven. Today, Contraband Bayou hosts many events and is a popular destination for boating, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. It is also home to the Lake Charles Civic Center, which hosts concerts, conventions, and other events throughout the year. The area is known for its beautiful natural scenery and wildlife, including alligators, ducks, and egrets. Visitors can also enjoy the nearby Lake Charles Boardwalk and other attractions in the city.
